8th January 1916

At Queensferry. Better weather today. Hospital Boat was able to do her trip and so we sent the Ship’s Corpl. I noted about previously. Poor chap he didn’t like going and “his heart was in his mouth”. The Commander spoke a few kind words to him before he went down into the Hospital Boat. I wonder what will happen to him now; it will be bad for his wife and three children if he is invalided, for I don’t suppose he would be granted a very big pension. I hope he will pull himself together and be able to remain in the Service.

Wrote to Aunt Nina today.
